Nottingham Castle

Castle Place, Nottingham

The history of Nottingham Castle is long and turbulent. The first incarnation of Nottingham Castle was built in 1068. Known as the legendary home to the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood’s mortal enemy, the castle has been dismantled and rebuilt several times throughout history. In 1875 the gutted building was restored as a museum of fine art, which it remains today. There are a number of different galleries to tour with much to see along the way, from historical displays to costume collections.
